The underground restaurant movement appeals to my bored of the same-old same-old self, so I was very excited to have a pizza at Ferdinando’s, a “restaurant” in the pizza maker Diego’s lounge. Based in de Waterkant, I was expecting a certain kind of aestethic, but noooo, this place is more like a relaxed student digs, and once you’re inside you could easily be in Observatory. We got the best table in the house (and by best I mean only table) and luckily we knew a lot of the other diners, so the evening turned out to be a very interesting one. The hosts – Diego, his crazy girlfriend and their dog are very warm and entertaining, the pizzas delicious and if you’re happy without the fuss of cutlery & plates and just want to stick pizza in your face, then this place is for you. Bring your own wine though, and they’re only open Wednesdays to Fridays and you need to book as space is limited.
