The White House

The White House
March 3, 2015 Monya

Walking into Michael Ipp’s Bantry Bay home you can feel the crazy world shutting it’s mouth for a second. Without the noise of colour, the “White House” has an immediate calming effect. Like a clean white page, a theme that Mike has applied to the design of his home, as well as his award winning advertising agency Canvas. It  also helps that he has a background in architecture – a talent that came in handy when redesigning this space.

But don’t be fooled into thinking that all the serenity means this guy is all serious and zen – Mike relies on life wisdom from Calvin and Hobbes, in particular a framed cartoon where Calvin admires his grass-stained knees and proudly proclaims that you have to to re-examine your life if your knees aren’t green by the end of the day. A motto which captures Mike’s playful attitude to life beautifully.

Mike says “Calvin and hobbes are my heroes. So there was no way I was not going to find a place for them in the house. The timeless wisdom, the imagination that knows no bounds, his refusal to grow up- all great attributes. This one in particular, where he admires his grass-stained knees and proudly proclaims to having to re examine your life if your knees aren’t green by the end of the day, is a favourite; words to live by for sure”.
