A ridiculously beautiful Victorian on the slopes of Tamboerskloof, over-looking the City Bowl and Table Mountain…and a front door that’s answered by a loving heavy breather…all my favourite things. Let me clarify my previous statement, heavy-breather = Elvis the bulldog of Andy and Nicole Fenner of Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants . All photos by Cindy Taylor.
The open plan kitchen and dining area is the stuff of foodie-dreams. Andy and Nicole designed this space around the two things that matter most – food and friends. The American Walnut kitchen unit was built by James Louw from JL joinery. The table is from a gem of a second hand shop in Somerset West called Odds and Ends, the chairs are from Vamp and the bench is a Pedersen and Lennard.
The exposed brick wall in the kitchen happened by chance – as the builders removed the plaster the beautiful old original bricks were exposed and it was decided to leave it as a feature wall behind the Morso fireplace.
The poster on the side table is from an annual food symposium held in Copenhagen. Nicole explains that they were lucky enough to get tickets to this year’s show MAD4 so will have another poster to add to the collection.
The two dogs are king of this castle, Nicole explains: Yep, the dogs are a huge part of our lives. We treat them like children rather than dogs, so they pretty much get to do whatever they like. Elvis the Bulldog is the baby of the family. Aggie is a rescue dog; we decided that Elvis needed a friend and got her from a very cool animal rescue centre called African Tails, they rescue dogs and cats and place them in foster homes until they find proper homes. She is named after Agnes – the little girl in ‘Despicable Me’.
The bath was an original piece in the house. The Fenner’s had it refurbished by Mend a Bath – they offer a brilliant service by collecting your bath, you choose a colour and you have it back within a week.
The Rosewood munka shelf is from Stokperd
Upstairs bathroom – cabinets were fitted by James Louw and fittings from Victorian Bathrooms.
And to end off…a view of the glorious table mountain, and Elvis’ butt!
