Nara Dreamland

I’m mildly obsessed with abandoned places since finding Christopher Payne’s documentary on 19th century insane asylums. The images below are of Nara Dreamland in Japan, built in 1961 to resemble Disneyland (which was built in 1955) and abandoned in 2006. There’s something unusually beautiful about the after life of the swan rides stranded in the reeds and the way time and nature has reclaimed the merry-go-round.     there is a place like this in jo’burg and i’ve always wanted to take you there – its called mini-rama in the south, it’s a miniature world of SA tourist destinations, you are going to love it xxx

      So mini-rama is in really bad condition, but they are still open, according to recent reviews on the internet? That sounds even weirder than Nara Dreamland… or it sounds like Nara Dreamland from 2000 to 2006…
