Paula’s macking pad
Sometimes a place is so damn good looking you have to make up a new adjective. Macking. A word that accurately describes the industrial city centre apartment that has been lovingly created by owner Paula Nel. While working in the caribbean she commissioned me to design a 3.8m oak storage cabinet, which was built in 3 parts and assembled on site and largely approved via late night cross-continent emails. What I love most about this apartment is that it is filled with unusual trinkets & treasures collected from travels around the world, but more importantly Paula’s penchant for the slightly macabre – a world war 2 gas mask, skulls, taxidermy, a photograph of a corpse on a gurny, so artfully displayed that you get the meaning of beauty in decay.
